At some point, your candle will go out and so make use of the light. God is the light and no darkness will come over you.
Some of us give to the poor just to impress others but my question is…What reward are you expecting from God?
Stop praying to God to change your marriage, job or your finances because you might end up seeing that you are the one that need the change not your marriage, job or finances. 
The next time satan reminds you of your past, remind Him of it is future
